Janet Wennes is a Certified Public Accountant and owner of JL Wennes, CPAs, a full-service accounting firm in Carlsbad, CA. As a dedicated and detail-oriented accounting professional, Janet has met the accounting and tax needs of individuals and businesses for over 25 years.

Janet is originally from Minnesota. She has made her home in North County for the past 35 years. Her husband is a retired USMC officer, and she had the privilege of being by his side for his 21 years of active-duty service. She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Accounting) from San Diego State University and her Master of Science Degree in Taxation from Golden Gate University.
Prior to owning her own firm, she worked for different companies in various accounting roles. Since opening her doors in 2009, many of her prior employers are now her clients.

Janet is passionate about helping individuals and business owners achieve their financial goals. Her many years of experience and on-going tax education enable her to solve the most complex tax issues and disputes.

Outside of work Janet enjoys the company of her family and friends playing golf, traveling, and walking her two dogs.

Hayley Craig became a part of the Janet Wennes team during the firm’s first tax season in 2010. She specializes in small business and individual tax return preparation, as well as assisting new clients with resolution of tax matters. As part of the JL Wennes CPA team, she also helps with financial statement preparation services, tax planning, and payroll. She is dedicated to helping clients achieve business success and committed to delivering tax services that meet each client’s unique goals.

While working in the public accounting field Hayley attended California State University of San Marcos, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting. After graduation she relocated to Lake Tahoe where she continued to work as a controller for prominent local ski retailer. She later returned to Southern California and became a Certified Public Accountant and returned to the firm where she began.

Hayley enjoys the outdoors and camping in new places with her husband, kids, and her dog, Hank.  She also enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

With more than 20 years of experience in accounting, Christy Hoffman offers a comprehensive background and a deep commitment to guiding clients through the complexities of tax planning and preparation. A graduate of Point Loma Nazarene University with a degree in accounting, Christy began her career in public accounting, later expanding her expertise in the private sector before returning to public practice with a specialized focus on taxation.

She joined JL Wennes in 2024, bringing with her extensive knowledge and a global perspective shaped by years of international relocation alongside her husband, a U.S. Marine, and their children. Outside the office, Christy enjoys skiing and spending time at the beach with her family.

Leah Cruse is an Enrolled Agent with extensive experience in tax preparation for S-Corporations, Partnerships, Individuals, and nonprofit organizations. She has worked in publicaccounting since 2019 and has had more than 15 years of bookkeeping and accounting expertise, helping clients achieve accurate reporting and practical business solutions.

Leah is currently inthe process of obtaining her CPA certification, further strengthening her professional credentials.Leah earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Colorado State University and grew upimmersed in entrepreneurship through her family’s businesses, including an ink manufacturingcompany, a bakery, and real estate ventures. Originally from the Los Angeles area, she relocatedto San Diego in 2017 and now enjoys serving businesses and individuals throughout the region.

Outside of work, Leah enjoys traveling the world, attending concerts, exploring new restaurantsas a self-proclaimed foodie, and spending time with family, friends, and her two pets — Lincoln,a mini dachshund, and Leon, a Russian tortoise.

Margit Henry is the Lead Bookkeeper and primary point of contact for all bookkeeping clients at JL Wennes CPAs. With over 25 years of experience in the field, she brings deep expertise in accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and the preparation of accurate financial statements. Margit is proficient in a variety of accounting platforms, including QuickBooks Online and Desktop, as well as Xero.

Before joining JL Wennes CPAs in 2013, Margit gained valuable experience in the hospitality industry, where she honed her bookkeeping skills across multiple business environments. Her passion lies in supporting business owners by helping them gain clarity and confidence in their financial operations.

Outside of work, Margit enjoys spending quality time with her family and giving back to the community through her volunteer work with local dog rescues. She shares her home with two beloved rescue dogs, Koya and Guinness—both proud “foster fails.”

Nancy Dugery is a Bookkeeper at JL Wennes CPAs, bringing a wealth of experience and a meticulous approach to financial record-keeping. She joined the firm in 2023, relocating to San Diego from the San Francisco Bay Area with her family.

Prior to joining JL Wennes CPAs, Nancy honed her skills in diverse settings, serving as a bookkeeper for both a dynamic marketing firm and a boutique hotel company in the Bay Area. This experience provided her with a broad understanding of bookkeeping practices across various industries, equipping her with the versatility to handle diverse accounting needs.

Nancy holds a Bookkeeping Certificate from De Anza College. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Nancy is a dedicated wife and mother of two teenage boys. When not immersed in the world of finance, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and their dog, Luna. She also finds relaxation in assembling Legos, tackling crossword puzzles, fitness on her Peloton, and immersing herself in the world of books.

Christine joined the JL Wennes team to assist with the expansion of our payroll department. While her original career pursuits were headed in the direction of Marine Biology, Christine was given a life-changing opportunity to work for a family member’s start up business in real estate education. She went from being one of the first five employees to heading up the Accounting and HR department as the company quickly grew to over 100 employees in multiple states. While working full-time she continued her education in accounting and human resources management by taking night classes at Cal State San Marcos.

After taking a hiatus to raise her two children, Christine decided it was time to return to the workforce. You can now find her here full time eager to assist with payroll and to answer all your questions. During her personal time, you can find her spending time with her family and two beloved Golden Retrievers at the beach or enjoying one of the many new eateries on the coast.

Kristine Wahner is the Office Manager at JL Wennes CPAs, bringing over 30 years of top-tier customer service experience. Since joining the firm in 2019, she has become the key liaison between clients and the CPA team—overseeing scheduling, communication, and client support. She also manages the firm's social media presence.

Kristine’s strong organizational and managerial skills help streamline operations, especially during tax season. Her background includes 12 years in banking, running a photography business, and working as a tax preparer. She holds a B.S. in Business Management with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship from De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde in the Philippines.

Outside of work, Kristine enjoys cooking, hiking, bootcamp fitness, and traveling with her family—and her two miniature Schnauzers, Neo and Kaishi. Her diverse experience and commitment to excellence make her a valued part of the JL Wennes CPAs team.
